The CO visit this week he says" In August..."
by James Jackson inup until 5 years ago, the co used to work up their own parts for specfic congregations in their circuits.
everything is up to script, in other words, every co in the country are givings the same talks in the local congregations they visit.
what got me to cringe is when he said at the meeting, trying to encourage everyone to pioneer this august; he said :" you know this october it will be 100 years since gods kingdom began ruling, remember what happen when joshua told the israelites to march around jericho on the seventh day, and what happened when they let out a great war cry?

How Many Had Chronic fatigue syndrome?
by OnTheWayOut inchronic fatigue syndrome refers to severe, continued tiredness that is not relieved by rest and is not directly caused by other medical conditions.. did you have many congregation members, particularly pioneers, that said they had " chronic fatigue syndrome" ?.
that's their "get-out-of-jail-free card.
" they were free to cancel anything at anytime and it was their legitimate reason for not doing anything that didn't involve field recruiting.

Speaking of burnout
During pioneer school one day the CO made a big to do about burnout. He went into the definition and causes of it and stated that the prevention and cure for burnout was the full-time ministry.
"How could you ever get burned out serving Jehovah?" were his exact words. He was absolutely serious.

Illness is the only way out for a JW. I knew quite a few Bethelites/pioneers/missionaries who developed CFS. Tons of food intolerances, digestive and repetitive stress issues for JWs serving fulltime also. One thing I noticed with JWs, common illnesses are very exaggerated. A simple cold can knock them out for several weeks. Allergies are another big one for the friends. And to their credit, it does get them out of a lot of jams. Don't want to go to the bookstudy (back in the day) at the stinky house, return visits and bible studies? Just blame your allergies!
One of my aunts has always claimed to be a diabetic. She's never been overweight and she always gets the symptoms backwards when complaining about it. She also gets out of the meetings/field service for at least 5 months a year starting around November when her annual cold turns into bronchitis. She discovered that combo worked wonders about 15 years ago. She never gets tired of the coughing and shortness of breath...lol
My uber righteous, judgemental, and very hypocritcal mother claims to have CFS and fibromyalgia and asthma (two other very popular JW illnesses). Whenever she doesn't want to do something, one of the three flares up instantly....roflmao

How to cope with depression?
by make yourself ini know its very common for jws and ex jws to deal with depression.
maybe it's a side effect of cognitive dissonance or the whole outlook on life being a jw.
but what are some ways to cope with depression?

Some things that have helped me get a grip on depression (some mentioned above)
To the extent possible reduce contact with negative, pessimistic people (including close friends/family members)
Challenge your negative thoughts. Ask yourself, "what is the worst thing that will happen if this thought comes true? And then what is the worst thing that will happen? And then what?... and so on... this takes away the power of those catastrophizing thoughts.
Light, light light, Get outside. Even on a cloudy day, spending time outdoors is better than sitting inside in artificial light. (check your vit D levels)
Get a pet. It gives you something to love and take care of that won't add to your problems and worries.
I have to second the caffeine tip above. I have never been a coffee drinker but a small cup (black, no sugar/cream) in the morning (especially in the winter) does wonders for my mood.
Clonazepam helped me in a pinch. I used it during one particulary bad stretch of anxiety (closely linked with my depression) a few years ago. It reminded me of how I used to feel before major depression took over. Since then, I've been able to settle back into a relaxed state when anxiety/depression strikes. I will use it again if all else fails.
Do whatever you have to do to get good sleep. You will never feel better if you're not sleeping well.
Good Luck on discovering what heals your soul.

The Bethel "Compound", CULTure & Cults
by Phaedra ini was reflecting on some of the traditional cults mentioned in hassan's book that recruit members and have them move into some kind of compound, give up their worldly lives, possessions, leave their families, etc.
and work solely for the furthering of the cult... isn't that exactly what "going to bethel" is?.
when you become a bethelite, you take a vow of poverty and devote your life to the org.

When I was engaged one of my cousins said "Let me know if you get stuck there and I'll come and break you out."
I still have relatives stuck on the compound

When our shih tzu was a puppy, he would follow closely and bite our ankles and heels with each step...lol. We started yelping loudly (as if in pain) and turning our backs with each nip (even if it was painless). Took about 3 days and he stopped. And get the puppy some squeaky chew toys to play w and some gnawing chews for teething.
Congrats on your new pet.
